Yesterday I wrote about my sweet husband, Joe…and how God spared him from having a fatal heart attack in 2013. I am so thankful to still have Joe in my life, holding my hand and walking beside me through all the ups and downs that come our way. But before you get the idea that our marriage is perfect, I want to let ya know – IT’S NOT!! WE are not perfect, thus our marriage is not perfect. Far from it.
You see, we have a problem…and it’s a big one.
We argue. A lot.
I know! When you look at our pictures you might find it hard to believe…but we do. I think its safe to say we have an argument just about every day. It comes out in our day to day conversation, in our texts to each other…we even have cards and plaques around the house emphasizing this disagreement we have with each other. Its pretty sad. Really.
This sits on Joe’s desk to keep him reminded…that I love him MORE! ;O)
Yes, we have that “love you more” argument all the time. We even hang up on each other on the phone just so we can “win” the argument for that day. And you know what? I love it!!
There are just so many things to love about my Joe.
He’s steady. And faithful. Faithful to God, faithful to his call, faithful to his family, faithful to me, through the good times and the bad. Steady and faithful. Oh how I love that about him.
He doesn’t mind if I decorate with girly things like Shabby Chic, pink and flowers. I’ve never once heard him complain or ask me to change it…quite the opposite. He’s actually told me that he likes it…’cause I like it! Yep! He’s a keeper!!
He’s funny…and fun to be with…
He’s a very hard worker (like we talked about yesterday).
He’s not impulsive. He’s a thinker. He’s a great listener.
He’s so gracious, kind, and sweet.
Joe has been writing me poems since we were dating…yes, he has! sigh.
Here are a couple short ones I got in a text…
Beauty comes about 5 feet tall,
digging thru boxes or shopping at the mall;
it lives in my house-
she’s the fairest of them all !!
Mitzi, I love you,
you’re my precious little doll !!!!!
————
There’s snow on the grass,
There’s bark on the tree,
there’s a smile on my face,
whenever I see thee!
Some are short, some are pages long. Some make me laugh, some make me cry. I love them all!
He loves the Lord with all his heart. He’s a great preacher. He takes the things of God seriously.
He’s patient. He knows how to make folks feel comfortable when they’re around him.
And Joe’s a sinner saved by grace! (One day I want him to share with you all how he came to know the Lord as his personal Saviour. Its an amazing story!)
Maybe I’ve made him sound perfect. He’s not. (I’m not!!) But we’re perfect for each other!
And I believe what has helped us make it through 30+ years of marriage, is both of us walking with the Lord and trusting Him in everything He has brought into our lives. We’ve had our share of hard times, and I’ve heard the statistics that a very high percentage of couples end up divorced after the death of a child, from financial difficulties, moving/relocating…we’ve had it all, and some of them multiple times, yet we have clung to God and to each other, and I’m thankful we have weathered it all together.
P.S. Lest you think we’re not “normal”…we do have real disagreements, the popping of his jaw drives me crazy, he leaves clips of hair on the bathroom counter when he trims the hair over his ears, and…well, thats good for now…and when I get aggravated about things like this, I try to remember to give myself a shake and be thankful for it, as they’re a living testimony that he is alive and I get to wake up to him again tomorrow morning! :o)
Just checked in to see if part 2 was posted & there it was. Kept me smiling (ear to ear) through the whole post!
Thanks for the uplift . Keep ’em coming!!
