Have you ever been driving along in your car and turned on your CD player and the song that was playing was exactly what you needed to hear…at that exact moment?! Then you kept pushing the “repeat” button until you got to your destination, listening to the song over and over again? 🙂
That happened to me last Tuesday morning. I was on my way into the city to visit with my married daughter and to help her with some things around the house (should I mention that we got a little of the cleaning done I wanted to help her with and we got A LOT of visiting done…over lots of coffee, of course! hmmm…loved it!!).
Most of the time when I’m driving all by myself, I like the quiet. I don’t experience that (quiet!) very often, so when I have the opportunity I enjoy every minute of it. Gives me time to think. To pray. Or just enjoy the quiet! Time alone…in the quiet.
Well, Tuesday morning I found myself reaching up and turning on the MP3 player and the song I heard playing was “How Deep the Father’s Love For Us” (sung by the Sound Forth Singers on the CD A Strong Tower). With the week before being a heavy, sad week of friends and loved ones passing away, this song really ministered to my heart and I played it over and over again, as I made my way to my daughter’s house.
So this morning, the Lord’s Day, I thought I’d share the words of the song with you. I hope it blesses your heart, as it did mine, and that it draws your hearts and minds to our Heavenly Father…the Giver of this great, great love of His! What an amazing God!!
How Deep the Father’s Love For Us
How deep the Father’s love for us,
How vast beyond all measure,
That He should give His only Son
To make a wretch His treasure.
How great the pain of searing loss –
The Father turns His face away,
As wounds which mar the Chosen One
Bring many sons to glory.
Behold the man upon a cross,
My sin upon His shoulders;
Ashamed, I hear my mocking voice
Call out among the scoffers.
It was my sin that held Him there
Until it was accomplished;
His dying breath has brought me life –
I know that it is finished.
I will not boast in anything,
No gifts, no power, no wisdom;
But I will boast in Jesus Christ,
His death and resurrection.
Why should I gain from His reward?
I cannot give an answer;
But this I know with all my heart –
His wounds have paid my ransom.

Amen, amen, amen! I just went to my email when I heard the alert and was so happy to read your new post.
I first heard that song two or three years ago I think and I loved it so much and still do. It is beautifully written and is certainly one that will elicit the spirit of praise & worship when i consider the cost of my salvation!
Thanks so much for sharing again
